By Allen Blumberg, writer/director (from the 2008 Newport Beach Film Festival)
I always wanted to make a film that took place during the depths of the McCarthy Era. And I always wanted to make a film about newspaper people when newspapers were at the zenith of their influence. And I wanted to make a film about America's obsession with race, and our long and continuing journey dealing with it. Ghosts of the Heartland does not have an America-bashing agenda. That sort of thing isn't productive. But I won't apologize for our past, either. There have been wrongs that need to be made right. I hope we have done that in a way that shows there are people of all races who stood up when the time was right. And some who let others do the heavy lifting for them. I hope you catch our film and find it entertaining. Also, I hope you feel motivated to talk about it over coffee after the show. Please check out the 30-second film clip, production photos and press kit on the Ghosts of the Heartland website.
Film screens August 29 at the Moondance International Film Festival in Boulder, Colorado (Aug.29-Sept.1, 2008). For information and tickets, click HERE. (Ghosts of the Heartland - Allen Blumberg - won the Moondance FF "Seahorse" Award)
