| The 2008 AFI Dallas full festival lineup showcased 119 features and 91 shorts for a total of 210 films from 34 countries. This year, the AFI Dallas Star Award, which is presented annually by the AFI Dallas International Film Festival to a select group of film artists in recognition of their unique contributions to cinema, was given to Helen Hunt, Jack Lemmon, Mickey Rooney, Todd Wagner (see MPM's Special Feature "Todd Wagner: Groovy Geek") and Charlize Theron. Rooney and Wagner were in attendance to accept their awards. Following the format introduced last year, the festival featured screenings with red carpet entrances at theaters throughout the city, award presentations, filmmaker panels, parties, and other special events celebrating film, culminating in an awards ceremony held at W Dallas-Victory Park Hotel on Sunday, April 6. "This is a festival in more than name," says Michael Cain, artistic director and CEO. "It really makes a festive splash all over the city."
